Queluz Palace: Tickets, Rooms, Gardens and the Train From Sintra

All prices are from the Parques de Sintra price page. Youth means 6 to 17, senior 65 and over, and the family ticket is two adults and two youths. No free category or under-6 price is printed for Queluz.

The Lunch Hour and the Machine

The ticket office at Queluz closes from 12:00 to 13:00, like those at the Sintra National Palace, the Moorish Castle and Monserrate. The automatic ticket machine stays available through the hour, so a midday arrival is not a wasted trip. Last ticket and last admission are both at 17:30, half an hour before the palace closes and an hour before the gardens do.

The Friend's Card

Queluz is inside the Parques de Sintra network, so the annual Sintra Friend's Card covers it along with Pena, the Countess of Edla's Chalet, Monserrate, the Sintra National Palace, the Moorish Castle and the Capuchos. The adult card is $103.80 (€90), it is sold only at ticket offices and it is personal. Single adult tickets for Pena, the Moorish Castle, Monserrate, the National Palace, the Capuchos and Queluz add up to $93.40 (€81), so the card pays only if you come back.

The State Rooms

The official page picks out the Throne Room and the Music Room as the palace's ceremonial spaces, and lists the Tiled Corridor and the Don Quixote Room with them. The Robillion Pavilion takes its name from Jean-Baptiste Robillion, the architect of the second building phase. Parques de Sintra does not publish a room count or a set route, so the order you walk them in is the order the day's circuit allows.

The palace also hosts concerts of the Festival de Sintra, the country's oldest music festival, founded in 1957.

The Gardens, the Cascade and the Canal

Outside, the official page names the Grand Cascade and the Tiled Canal as the features to look for. The gardens stay open until 18:30, half an hour after the palace, so the best order for a late arrival is rooms first and gardens last. The gardens-only ticket at $6.92 (€6) exists for exactly that walk.

The Portuguese School of Equestrian Art also works from the palace, with public mornings on weekdays.

The dates below come from the Parques de Sintra history of the palace. They explain why the building changes style from one wing to the next.

Mateus Vicente de Oliveira led the first phase from about 1747 to 1758. Infante D. Pedro became king by his marriage to Queen Maria I, whose name the last pavilion carries. Three architects over almost half a century is why the palace reads as Baroque, Rococo and Neoclassical in turn, and why it is famous as a single building that shows all three.

The options below combine Parques de Sintra's directions, CP's price sheet in force since 1 January 2026 and the EMES station car park tariffs. CP prices trains by the number of zones you cross, and the zone count from Sintra to Queluz is shown only on CP's map, so no single fare is printed here.

Which Station

Parques de Sintra gives both Queluz-Belas and Monte Abraão as the palace's stations, each about 1 km away, and gives no walking time from either. CP's timetable PDF still linked from its site is the edition in force from 30 June 2024, and its weekend table has Sintra to Queluz-Belas in 20 minutes with trains leaving Sintra roughly every 15 minutes. Queluz-Belas has a staffed ticket office, open 07:30 to 19:00 on weekdays and 08:00 to 17:00 at weekends and holidays, with Sintra line trains from about 05:26 to 01:33.

By Bus Within Queluz

If you would rather not walk from the station, Parques de Sintra lists bus 1513 from Amadora, which stops at Queluz (Palácio), and buses 1530, 1601, 1602 and 1717, which stop at Queluz (4 Caminhos), a 15-minute walk from the palace. None of them runs from Sintra, so they matter only if you are coming from Amadora, Oeiras or Carcavelos.

Parking at the Station

If you are driving from Sintra, EMES runs both station car parks. Monte Abraão's is free with 586 spaces, and Queluz-Belas charges $0.35 (€0.30) for the first 15 minutes and $0.29 (€0.25) for each 15 minutes after, capped at $2.08 (€1.80) a day. No car park at the palace itself is listed on the pages we read.

With the train 20 minutes from Sintra on CP's weekend sheet, a palace and gardens visit fits into a morning with lunch back in Sintra, or into the afternoon on your way to Lisbon, since Queluz-Belas is on the line into the city. Remember that last admission is 17:30.

Queluz is the day trip for the morning you leave Sintra. Take the train towards Lisbon, get off at Queluz-Belas, see the palace and gardens, and carry on into the city on the same line. If you are staying longer, it makes a half day after the Sintra National Palace, when you want one more palace without a long bus.
