The estate's Tours page is blunt about where to buy, and the reason is a warning it had to publish.
One Authorised Platform
According to the Quinta da Regaleira Tours page, tickets should be bought through the official online ticket office at regaleira.byblueticket.pt, which it calls the only authorised ticket sales platform, where availability shows in real time. The estate runs on the MEO Blueticket system, which is why the address does not look like regaleira.pt.
The foundation that runs the estate, Fundação Cultursintra FP, also posted a notice after many visitors arrived at the gate with tickets bought on websites unrelated to Quinta da Regaleira. It accepts no responsibility for any issue with tickets bought through other channels. In practice that means a problem with a ticket from an unrelated site is between you and that site.
What the Ticket Is
A Regaleira ticket is personal and valid for a single entry on the date and at the time chosen when you buy it. Keep it until the end of the visit. Children up to 5 enter free but still need a ticket, so add them to the booking. The price includes VAT and cannot be combined with other discounts or promotions.
The visit is self-guided, with a map the estate lets you download. Tickets give access to the areas open to the public, and the estate warns that some areas may be closed or restricted. That includes the Aquarium, closed for restoration, and the Waterfall Path. Once inside, you may stay for the rest of the opening hours.
Paying and Proving Who You Are
At the estate you can pay in cash, by debit card or by credit card, except American Express. The visiting rules also say you must carry documentation the ticket office may ask for, such as ID, a hotel reservation or an address. Proof matters most on the reduced and free tickets, so bring it.
Time Slots and the One-Hour Grace
Regaleira's slot system is more forgiving than Pena's, and the difference is worth using when you plan the day.
Slots Every 30 Minutes
Entry slots run every 30 minutes. The estate's Tours page lists them from 09:00 to 17:00 and gives last entrance as 17:30 all year. Its notice on the late-summer schedule, which runs from 10 August to 30 September, lists slots from 09:00 to 16:30 with last admission at 17:30, and confirms that tickets already bought for the 17:00 slot stay valid.
In the same period the gardens open 09:00 to 19:30 and the palace, chapel and exhibition spaces 10:00 to 19:00.
The Grace Period
The estate's notice on the grace period allows a maximum of 1 hour after the time stated on the ticket. The table applies that rule to three slots. It is our arithmetic, and the last admission time still applies.

How That Compares With Pena
Pena works the other way. Its ticket time is the entry to the palace interior, with no delay tolerance, and arriving early does not get you in either. If both sights are on the same day, the Pena slot is the fixed point and Regaleira fills the gap around it.

Changing, Cancelling and Refunds
Three rules, all from the estate's sales conditions. They are stricter on refunds than on dates.
- Rescheduling: through the official online ticket office, up to 24 hours before the scheduled visit.
- Refunds: none, except when the estate closes without it being scheduled or the competent authorities order it.
- Exchange or extension: tickets cannot be exchanged and their validity cannot be extended.
Put together, the safe way to buy is to book on the official shop as soon as your date is firm, and move it there if plans change more than a day out. A ticket bought on another website follows that website's rules, and the estate has said it will not help with it. The rules for platform cards are on each listing, which is why the table above says "See the listing" rather than guessing.
Can You Buy Tickets at the Gate?
There is a ticket office at the estate. The question is what you can count on there.
The estate recommends buying in advance through its official online ticket office, where you can see real-time availability and secure your visit. Its pages publish no queue figure for the ticket office and no statement that walk-up slots are held back, so we cannot tell you what is left on a given morning.
Two things are sold only at the ticket office: the audio guide at $5.77 (€5) including the map, and the printed map alone at $0.58 (€0.50). The audio guide has 30 listening points across the palace, the chapel and the gardens, in Portuguese, English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Russian. It cannot be reserved and depends on availability.
On weekends and public holidays the estate's administrative services are closed, and the Tours page says any matter on those days has to be dealt with in person at the ticket office.
Is Quinta da Regaleira Free for Anyone?
For most visitors, no. The free and reduced categories are narrow, and all of them need proof.
The categories below are the estate's own. None of them can be combined with another discount or promotion.

Two things are missing from that list. There is no reduced ticket for students beyond the youth band for ages 6-17. And the free Sunday entry for residents of Portugal that Parques de Sintra offers at Pena and the Moorish Castle does not apply here, because Regaleira is a different operator.

Regaleira and Pena on the Same Day
Two operators, two shops, two sets of rules. The order you book them in matters more than the order you visit them.
Book Pena First
We found no joint ticket for Regaleira and Pena on either official shop. You buy Pena on the Parques de Sintra shop and Regaleira on regaleira.byblueticket.pt. The adult total is our sum $46.10 (€40): $23.10 (€20) for the Pena Essential visit and $23.10 (€20) for Regaleira.
Book the Pena slot first. It has no delay tolerance, it is the palace interior time rather than the park time, and Parques de Sintra says to allow about 30 minutes from the Pena park gate to the palace. The operator also says the afternoon is, for now, the quieter time at the palace. Then book a Regaleira slot that fits around it, knowing you have up to an hour of grace.
Or Let a Tour Do Both
Three cards on this page visit both sights: the half-day tour from Sintra, the full day from Lisbon and the small-group half day from Lisbon. They take the planning off your hands. They do not change the estate's rule that external guides stay outside the palace and the Initiation Well, and the cards do not say whether entry tickets are included, so check the option.

Five Ticket Mistakes at Regaleira
Each one is avoidable with the estate's own published rules.
- Buying on a website unrelated to the estate. The foundation has warned about it and takes no responsibility for those tickets.
- Leaving the change until the last day. Rescheduling closes 24 hours before the visit, and there is no refund.
- Planning on the audio guide without a backup. It cannot be reserved and depends on availability at the ticket office.
- Forgetting the under-5s. They are free but still need a ticket.
- Arriving with a suitcase or a large backpack. They are not allowed in. Leave them where you are staying or at the station before you come.
